OnStar and Accidents
I writing this post about an accident, now I know accidents happen. People want some kind of security when they drive, one of those is OnStar. This is not going to be like some of those commercials http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/idemo/index.jsp you hear on the radio where OnStar was able to help someone in an accident. Just the opposite. On March 20, 2007, my aunt was in a car wreck. When my sister talked to her today in the hospital she asked why didn't you use your OnStar. My aunt's car is a 2006 Cadillac and one of the safest cars on the market. It had landed on it's top, the air bags did not deploy and since she was hanging upside down she could not reach the OnStar button. So hopefully Bob Lutz over on the GM Fastlne Blog can maybe give us some answers on OnStar : for one, I thought that if you were in an accident that OnStar would go off. It is my understanding after some discussions today that for OnStar to go off the airbags have to be deployed - this discussion is still being debated. Since she could not reach the OnStar button, should there have been some kind of hands free option kick in. I am glad that there was another car that seen the accident and was there to help her. I want to get this out there so that OnStar can take this opportunity to improve on its product or at least explain how someone upside down with no air bags deployed is supposed to use OnStar.
