Greensburg Kansas
A little over two hours east is Greensburg Kansas as I lean upon my car out in my driveway watching the storm Friday evening I could tell it was going to be rough. When you have lived in this part of the world long enough, you just naturally go outside and check the weather when you start seeing lighting at night especially if you live in a rural area. Most of the storms go from west to east in this part of the world so I knew that storm was not coming this way.
After watching the weather on TV and saw the path the tornado was taking in a line from Greensburg to Macksville to Great Bend Kansas. On Saturday I started posting about this on twitter.com http://twitter.com/Tunis/statuses/50966752 hoping to get the word out. Later that day, I posted about listing you and your loved ones on the Live and Well website http://twitter.com/Tunis/statuses/51425382 at American Red Cross site http://redcross.org . My hope was that by getting this out on twitter.com and twittervision.com would get more resources coming in to this community. Kansans are resilient and the people of Greensburg will rebuild but they are going to need help. If you are in the tech industry maybe you could donate computers or services that would help with local law enforcement or in the schools. Grant County Kansas donated two fire trucks to Greensburg .
With the schools being total destroyed, it would have been much worse if the tornado would have hit in the afternoon. I wonder, Christian Long from your own perspective if DesignShare were to build schools in the Greensburg Kansas, how would they be designed for the future of learning and safety. Would they have basements, less windows, dual cement walls and how would the roof be designed – interesting thoughts as the schools in this small community could also be used for the shelter of the community.
